YOUNG athletes from Wealden proved their quick reactions and athleticism by scooping top honours at a tough competition last weekend.
The East Sussex Junior Badminton Association held its seventh annual championships at the University of Brighton’s Eastbourne campus in Denton Road.
In the Under 13 class, Jack Meacher from Uckfield was runner up in the boys singles and won the mixed doubles with partner Hayley Cox.
In the under 15s, Ben Sp[illard and Raife Hunt-Stokes were runners up in the boys doubles, Sarah Adams from Newick and Cameron Linnett from West Hoathly won the mixed doubles and Bethany Large partnered Ben Spillard to take second position in the mixed doubles.
Joseph Large from Mark Cross and Toby Spillard from Uckfield won the boys singers in the under 17 class and the singles plate was won by Mark Lee-Falcon from Peacehaven with Tristan Payne from Uckfield as runner up.
Alannah Dalby from Uckfield and Sarah Adams from Newick were runners up in the girls doubles but Toby Spillard from Uckfield and Jo Large once again proved their mettle by winning the boys doubles. Toby did the double by partnering Maddie Hayes from Eastbourne to be runners up in the mixed doubles.
