THE YOUNG mayor of Newhaven has been named as Year 10 student Charlotte Crookston.
The town’s young mayor elections attracted a record turnout on Thursday November 3.
In total 404 votes were cast by students at Tideway School.
Charlotte, 14, narrowly defeated election rivals Danielle Cornford and Rheannon Hewson to become Newhaven’s third young mayor.
One of Charlotte’s aims as is to improve services for teenagers who are experiencing problems and difficulties by giving them somewhere to turn for advice and help.
Charlotte’s first engagement as will be to lay a wreath for the town council on Remembrance Sunday together with the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor.
She will also attend the Twinning Charter signing ceremony afterwards.
