200,000 local jobs are linked to UK’s membership of EU

Last week, I visited Shoreham Port to talk about the Sussex jobs linked to our trade with Europe.

Some 1,600 people work at the port – jobs that could be placed at risk if we were to pull out of the EU.

British manufacturers have made it clear which side they are on – nine out of 10 car industry firms want Britain to stay in Europe including Hyundai, Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover.

UK manufacturers across the country – both large and small – have also said that staying in the EU is vital for Britain’s economic future.

Liberal Democrats are going into the European elections with a strong and simple message: let’s listen to the advice of British businesses and protect local jobs by staying in the EU to reform it from within.

After all, how can we expect to build a stronger economy by walking away from our biggest trading partner? £18 billion of exports from our region go to the EU and over 200,000 local jobs are linked to our membership.

These elections are the most important in years and this time the electorate has a clear choice – In or Out, Lib Dems or UKIP, securing the economic recovery or throwing it all away?
