INSPIRED by a beautiful summer Sunday my friend and I decided to cycle along the quiet country lanes around Ringmer village.
We had heard of the existence of a cycle path between Lewes and Ringmer but were surprised and disappointed to find ourselves forced to ride along the busy Ringmer road until we found the start of the track half way to Ringmer village.
But what a difference that path made. Cycling along it was a real pleasure and demonstrated what a difference proper provision for cyclists makes.
However, only when the cycle path extends the full length of the Ringmer road will it be possible to assess the true effectiveness of the path. Then, I am convinced, the growth in usership will testify to the wisdom of constructing this environmentally enriching project.
Surely, with our MP Norman Baker now a Transport Minister with responsibility for sustainable travel, the time is ripe for the completion of this locally important route.
