Bus shelter leaving Lewesians out in the cold

FOR many years now, the old bus station building in the centre of Lewes, has remained unused and now that the restaurant above has closed the doors are permanently locked.

As a result, everyone, and especially the disabled and elderly, have to wait outside in all weathers with just three small insecure seats. In winter, this problem is exaggerated, and the lack of seating or shelter for the vulnerable groups is a disgrace to the town, and even more to the council management.

There is, I understand, some sort of stand-off between the owners of the site and the ESCC. Lewes has just about the highest council tax rates in the country, and the ESCC have the funds and authority to resolve this issue; it is time to get a resolution to this intractable problem before the winter sets in.
