I see from the Uckfield edition (Express, August 22) that a determined lady is hoping to restore the Cross-in-Hand Windmill.
From where we live on the B2026, the mill used to be the most prominent object on the eastern horizon in 1939.
Every clear morning before going to school I would check to see if Cross-in-Hand mill was still there, sometimes even working, to assure me that England was still intact and it became my symbol of stability. Good luck, indeed, to Sally. He inspiring leadership will, I am sure, be the start of a successful campaign - but being 86 years old I don’t expect to see it accomplished personally.
