LETTER: Complete transparency

I totally agree with all David Hitchin says in his letter of December 30 '˜Is driver-only '˜perfectly safe'.

Without a guard to operate doors, vulnerable people such as the disabled, passengers with bulky luggage getting onto a crowded train and passengers with small children will inevitably be at risk of accident.

In contrast, Maria Caulfield’s ‘Opinion’ report is a blatant attempt to force long-suffering passengers into supporting government legislation to end strike action. What isn’t addressed – and its imperative it should be – are details of the legal contract linking Southern Rail’s governing body, its shareholders and our present government. Until we have complete transparency regarding this matter government legislation must not be allowed.
