Letters; Let’s see real democracy

At some point over the next few months there will need to be a by-election in Seaford to fill the vacancy on Seaford Town Council following the resignation of a local Conservative town councillor. What an ideal time for both political parties to demonstrate that their first priority is the town, and its people, by agreeing not to nominate candidates with party labels.

There is no question of the Conservatives losing control, or the Liberal Democrats gaining it as a consequence of this by-election. So why don’t they stand aside, and let’s see the calibre of the independent candidates who are nominated, and add a real element of local democracy into the proceedings.
