I’ve just been passed a copy of last weeks SE and note the letter headed Bygrave Encounter. Your contributor, Peter Tilley, is quite correct in his recollections.
According to the ticket that I have in front of me, it was I believe my grandmother’s, Max opened the St Pancras Garden Fete held in the grounds of Malling Place, by kind permission of the Mayor and Mayoress of Lewes, on Saturday August 28 1954 at 3pm.
According to the ticket admission was 6d, children half price and the location is given as Spences Lane, Malling Hill opposite “Prince of Wales”.
Also on the ticket is advice to the effect that busses 16, 18, 119 and 122 serve the area.
The Ticket that I have is signed on the reverse by Max.
