I READ your article last week on the Pells Swimming Pool being 150 years old.
Over 50 years ago my brother and I used to swim in a green, freezing pool with water rats swimming around the edge to keep us company.
What a contrast with the wonderful blue pool we saw on television recently.
We used to walk across the footbridge from The Deanery, South Malling to get there – halcyon days of youth. Then later I’d train with Elna Anderson, the cross-Channel swimmer from Denmark who was our Games Mistress, before school. She made 13 attempts and I was 13 years old. Happy memories.
