Polegate Town is prepared for the Diamond Jubilee long weekend, with a little formality and lots of fun starting on Saturday through to Tuesday, June 5. A colourful programme is available at shops throughout the town and has been delivered to most homes in Polegate to advertise the variety of attractions on each day.
The visit to the War Memorial Recreation Ground by Mr Peter Field, Her Majesty’s, Lord-Lieutenant for East Sussex at 12.15 on Saturday 2nd provides a formal link to the celebrations when he will plant a small oak sapling which began life in a Royal Park. The First Polegate Scouts who acquired the ‘Jubilee Oak’ and are encouraging residents to go along, wave a flag to give a warm rousing welcome to the Lord- Lieutenant.
Saturday also has a coffee morning at the community centre and, the Royal British Legion is holding an open day with family activities and a BBQ at Victoria Road.
Check out your skills at the War Memorial Recreation Ground on Sunday and Monday where there is a climbing wall, unrideable Wacky Wheels bike, crazy golf, small fairground rides, face painting, barrel shooting gallery and don’t forget to aim for the crockery smash! plus a variety of side-stalls with refreshments on site. On the Monday birds of prey will be on view with traditional Portuguese Dance and a Chinese ‘Kieran performance.
Elizabeth Court in the High Street are holding a barbecue starting at 4.30pm on Monday with tempting, tasty offerings.
Polegate Free Church is has an all denominations Jubilee service at 3pm on Sunday June 3.
Tuesday June 5 at St John’s Church will be a special afternoon as on the lawns, a Teddy bears picnic, ‘Bear Hunt’ followed by a Prince and Princess competition for the children will prove popular.
