Those who govern us talk and talk about ‘sustainable development’ and ‘local democracy’, but they don’t seem to be walking the walk. Maybe they think that when people say that they don’t want our precious agricultural land destroyed by new housing, or that they want our government to do much more to encourage local food production or that they want a revival of our towns and villages, they don’t really mean it.
So in case any of our elected representative are reading this I’d like to add my voice to the many who are objecting to the huge new greenfield housing developments planned around Hailsham, Uckfield and Polegate: Dear Wealden District Council, what we want is regeneration of our towns and villages. Instead you are taking away our farmland and giving us acres of new suburbia.
And while I’m at it: Dear Mr Cameron, what we want to eat is more fine local produce. What we get is more harmful and imported rubbish. And yes I really do mean it.
