OF course the site of St Anne’s School should be preserved. It was a grave mistake for the county council to close the school when it did as it provided an excellent education facility for children where needs are easily overlooked and are not now properly met in the mainstream.
The closure was scandalous, at the time, as we (the governing body) were lied to for a long time. Finally the council spent a large sum of money reproducing a replica of the school in the classrooms at the site of Tideway School in Newhaven, to provide for the last two years of the final pupils. The house could still be used for social or educational purposes in the very beautiful grounds.
