The beauty of post industrial urban decay at Lewes’s Phoenix Quarter goes unappreciated

I am disappointed that no-one is standing up for the inherent beauty in post-industrial urban decay that exists within the current Phoenix area in Lewes.

The contrast of the re-encroachment of nature as plants find root amongst the concrete, and urban artists colonise and reuse the space is exciting. Compared to the soulless veneer of the manicured grass and Tesco frontage opposite, this is where the vitality of the future will spring from, if given time to develop. Baroquiem, my own nascent creative industry (baroque music based on found graffiti and played predominantly on re-used 1970s and 80s plastic artefacts), will itself now have to find root elsewhere.
