The French and Dutch got it right

The Meteorological Department and its 1987 staff have been busy stressing the advances made in forecasting since 1987 and by implication a hurricane could not reasonably have been forecast at the time.

This is of doubtful validity as both the French and Dutch services were at the time forecasting the imminence of a hurricane while we were vigorously denying it.
