Veracity,

Heathfield 27/10/2007 10:43:47
The police have spoiled bonfire in recent years by swamping the town with officers and introducing those horrible barriers which cause people to be crushed together and tempers to fray. Perhaps a minimum presence and a willingness to let the societies get on with it is the way to go!

Congratulations and thanks to all involved in reaching this outcome. Perhaps now, if the Police are watching the crowd rather than the bonfire boyes and girls, they will see where the trouble comes from.

Hopefully as its accepted that visitors will be fewer on a Monday lets hope that the barriers will be fewer too and we will be free to move around our town to see whichever aspects of the processions that we wish to. Much of the night is "self policed" by those experienced in partaking and planning of such things over a number of years - children in buggies take part too - do the authorities believe that society members would endanger them - what harm a few traditional atmospheric bangs - if you aren't up for it - use the "off" button - stay in and watch the soaps
