LEWES Green's have slammed Tesco's proposed extension of it's store in Brooks Road and claimed the district council has been 'intimidated' by the supermarket giant.
Town councillor Susan Murray has also criticised Lewes District Council's decision to delay its verdict on the future of the store.

Last week the Express reported the district council's planning committee voted to defer a decision on an application to expand the supermarket by almost 50 per cent.

Cllr Murray said: "Tesco already occupies an overly dominant position.

"Its own planning and retail statement tells us that Tesco currently has a £30m turnover compared to £17m for all other retail businesses in Lewes – ie nearly two thirds of all shopping in Lewes.

"Surely that is enough and it allows everyone who wishes to use Tesco to do so."
