DALE Binns revealed he was convinced he should joing the Rooks before the start of the season when he saw the quality of the other players in the squad.
Binns (above, celebrating with the crowd) said, "He (Steve King) tried to get me down the year before but I went to Stevenage. But I promised him, I said that if I dropped back down to the Conference South I said, 'you'll be the first shout'.
"When I came back down I was a bit low. But I saw the players down here and I thought, as a group of guys we could do something special. And I've never looked back since then really.
I spoke to Boothy (before joining) because I played with him at Cambridge City, and I knew a couple of the other boys. I came down to one session and I just saw the talent and I thought, this is for me. I started off (the season) well and carried on through. The last 10 games were a bit nervous but we've seen it through.
"The last four games have been tough. Today, I wanted to do a bit more but my lungs just couldn't do it, I just had to do a job for the team. But that's what happens, you may not be having a good game but someone will step up and come to the table. The squad is unbelievable, crazy.
"Player-for-player, when I compare this team to, say, Stevenage, who won the Trophy last year, there's not much difference. The only difference is depth but player for player we're ready."
Asked how Lewes would fare in the next division up, he replied, "Mid-table easy, play-offs maybe!"
