RELIEVED Lewes manager Kevin Keehan reckons their new formation and a better defensive display was the key to them notching up their third league win of the season.
He said: "As daft as it may sound, from an offensive point of view we were better against Torquay and ended up losing 4-1.
"Going 2-0 up the natural reaction is to sit back and defend and we defended so well that we didn't look in danger of conced
ing a goal today.
"On Tuesday we played well but gave away silly goals at the wrong time.
"Last week against Burton we played well before they got the winner with a dubious penalty."
"Today was about building and getting all the players fit. We defended so well and conceded very little."
And Keehan hinted the good form of youth team player Dave Wheeler, who impressed on the right flank, could lead to him claiming a regular place in the side.
He said: "Dave did great and caused a problem with his pace but in the youth team isn't asked to defend, which we were asking him to do.
"I am very happy for him and it could be fair to say he has done enough to stay in the side.
"Playing 4-5-1 worked well with David who gave us something different.
"We wanted to play him before but England Schools wanted him and wouldn't allow us to play him, even though I argued no other players from the team would be playing at Conference level.
"I was pleased with Scott Taylor – he's been better in the last two or three games playing on his own because we've been looking to play the ball to his feet, rather than high balls.
"Adam Hinshelwood was good tonight as he was down at Wrexham.
"If we can get out best 11 out then we've got a chance, perhaps with the addition of a couple of players.
"The win puts us in the mix while if we'd lost we would be falling behind the other sides."
