Lewes have secured the signature of former Brighton and Aston Villa midfielder Michael Standing.
Standing, 27, was part of the Villa youth team system with the likes of Darius Vassell and Gareth Barry.

The news of Standing's signing follows weeks of speculation that the midfielder would join the Dripping Pan outfit. He was seen in the crowd a
t both of Lewes's pre-season games – away to St Francis Rangers and at home to Brighton on Saturday.

A club statement released moments ago read, "Lewes FC continue to strengthen their squad for the coming season with another new signing.

"Lewes FC have today signed Michael Standing.

"Michael is a midfielder, and has played for Aston Villa, Bradford, Walsall, Chesterfield, Bournemouth and most recently Blue Square Premier club Grays.

Manager Kevin Keehan said, " I am pleased to add Michael to my squad, as he will be a great asset to the team with his knowledge and experience.

"We are shaping up well for the start of the season. This season will be very hard but an exciting one for me and Lewes FC.

"I have maybe one or two more signings before the start of the season, but we are beginning to make good progress."

Keehan also confirmed that ex-Albion captain Danny Cullip would make his first appearance for the Rooks when he runs out for 45 minutes against Burgess Hill Town tomorrow (at Burgess Hill, kick off 7.45pm).
