Hailsham Town manager Kenny McCreadie hailed the younger members of his squad after they saw off a physical Worthing United side 1-0 in the Extra Preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
McCreadie was forced into playing a younger and more inexperienced team than usual thanks to a number of injuries, and the players stood up to a rough Worthing team who tried in vain to bully Hailsham out of the competition.
Faced with a tough awa
y game at Burgess Hill Town in the next round McCreadie was positive about his side's chances.
He said, "The gap between County League and Ryman League isn't that big. There's big money up for grabs for the winners, so we'll be up for it."
Things haven't been going quite so well for Town in the league, however, where only one point has been gained so far out of a possible six.
A 4-1 defeat against newly relegated Horsham YMCA unfortunately coincided with a stag weekend which a large number of players attended, leaving McCreadie with a thin squad for a second time so far this year.
However Hailsham did manage to grab a point against Hassocks in their second league game of the year, a game which according to McCreadie branded a "fair result".
Hailsham travel to Arundel in the league tomorrow and host Sidley United in the John O'Hara Cup on Tuesday.
