Wealden were on the wrong side of a 4-3 scoreline against East Grinstead on Saturday – despite a spirited second half display when they fought back from three goals down to almost pull off what would have been a magnificent comeback.
Boss Steve Richardson felt harsh done by, and questioned a penalty decision made by the linesman in the first half.
He said. "The referee waved play on, and the linesman, who was further away, waved for it and gave the penalty, which was disappoin
ting.
"But you've just got to take the decisions as they come, and really all four goals came from mistakes by us."
About the second half performance, Richardson said, "At half time in the dressing room I told them that it was all about pride.
"But the way it ended up, 4-4 would've been a fair result."
In the league so far Wealden won their opener 3-0 against Rustington, before going down by the same scoreline against Peacehaven.
Richardson again said that slack defending was the cause for two of the goals given away against Peacehaven.
he said, "We gave them two goals, although to be fair one of the goals they scored was an absoloute screamer. We couldn't have done anything about that."
Rico also vowed to "keep his mouth shut" about the season ahead and his expectations for his team, although he did say, "I'm hoping for an ok season. It's early days so far and hopefully I'll start talking at the end of the season about a good year."
The Oaks host Steyning Town on Saturday and Bexhill United on Tuesday.
