POPULAR Rooks striker Jean-Michel Sigere can be forgiven his shirt-removing antics (and subsequent booking) after scoring Lewes's league-clinching second goal against Dorchester on Saturday.
The former French Under 21 International has endured a torrid 12 months since suffering a serious knee injury at the end of last season.

It took several months of patience, an operation and a spell on loan at Horsham before Sigere could even allow himself to think of playing for his beloved Lewes again. And when he did get back to full fitness, a series of niggles set his cause back again.

So while his late goal against doomed Dorchester didn't turn out to be quite as important as his late, late winner against Thurrock on the first day of March, it was a cause for celebration nonetheless.

"As everyone knows I was injured for six month so it's been hard for me, up and down, " said 'Siggy'.

"I went on loan and did ok but I came back and had a few niggles which stopped me staying fit.

"After scoring against Thurrock I thought that might be it, but obviously the team was doing well and the manager kept the same team and I had to wait for my chance again.

"So today I had a chance and I showed him I can always score goals."
He added, "It's been a great season for everyone – for the town for the fans.

"It's just relief basically. At 1-0 you never know what's going to happen, so when with five minutes to go you score your second, you know you're there and just have to see the game through. It's a big relief for everyone.

"I've been here three years, and it's been wonderful. Obvisously this year has been up and down but they have always been supportive of me and helped me through my injury. This is for the fans."
