Bexhill Cricket Club’s under-18 team has qualified for the Sussex U18 Big Smash Finals Day.
Bexhill will be joined at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground on Sunday by Seaford, Worthing and Findon.
Bexhill will face Findon in the second semi-final at 4pm, with the final under floodlights at 7pm. The team would appreciate all the support possible in its quest for the trophy.
Bexhill’s qualification was assured by an eight-wicket victory away to Roffey which meant they topped their group with an unbeaten record.
Will Edwards and Byron Smith took three wickets each, Will Harvey claimed two, and Liam Bryant and Ethan Guest bagged one apiece as Roffey were all out for 85 batting first.
Bexhill knocked off the runs in just 10.2 overs thanks largely to an unbeaten 38 from Bryant and Cameron Burgon’s 19.
Prior to that, Bexhill got the better of East Grinstead and Hellingly, and the game against group runners-up Seaford was rained-off.
Against East Grinstead, Edwards took 4-13 and Nathan Lopez 2-14 to restrict the opposition to 112-7 batting first. Burgon (43), Guest (21 not out) and Edwards (20 not out) then sealed a seven-wicket victory with seven balls to spare.
Bexhill outgunned Hellingly by 10 wickets. After restricting Hellingly to 73-9 with Harvey taking 4-7, Freddie Ullman 3-16 and Ant Surrage 2-8, Bryant (31 not out) and Ben Phillimore (23 not out) did the rest.
It’s the third successive year that Bexhill will have played in a county finals’ day at Hove and the team will include many of the under-16 squad which triumphed there two seasons ago.
Bryant has played at Hove twice and been on the winning side both times, as well as being man of the match both times.
