Andy overcomes his cabin fever to get back to competitive darts

WELL AT least all of that white cold stuff has now disappeared. I have never had so many darts matches called off due to the snow.

Considering we had the Christmas and New Year holidays, and then all of the bad weather, I hadn't had a competitive match for a month.

I actually got to the point where I had to get out of the house and go and play. I now know what cabin fever is.

In the Cracker League, we have had a couple of good wins, and my own game has been going well. We have enrolled the Weaver family into our team en masse, as due to other commitments and the bad weather we have been struggling to get a full team. A good couple of signings in the form of Ant and Hughie Weaver have seen them prove unbeaten so far in their appearances.

Last Sunday saw a few of us head off to Rileys in Brighton, where a singles competition was taking place. There was some good prize money up for grabs, and the winner gets to play Phil Taylor in an exhibition there next week.

I had quite high expectations for this event, but these were soon extinguished, as after a first leg that I won comfortably, my opponent, Jake Watts then won the second leg, and then finally in the third and deciding leg, I managed to miss 18 darts at double one. Oh dear, but it happens like that some times. Adi Gray won the event, without dropping a leg.

After a one month lay-off, our Wednesday singles league got back underway. This week saw me pitted against Matt Wenham and Keith Luck. First up was Matt, and as he has just joined the PDC as well this was going to be a hard match. Anyway, I got my game up to scratch, and won comfortably with a 4 – 1 result.

Later in the evening I played Keith, and got a 5 – 0 win. Hopefully this is the real me for 2010, and I can take my top game wherever I play. The league now shows me in second place, just behind Adrian Gray, with Matt in third.

Next weekend sees the return of the Eastbourne Open, at the Winter Gardens. Starting on Friday night and running through to Sunday evening, it should be a great event. So why not go along and enter, or even just to watch some quality darts.
