The first full game for the Men’s Rugby Academy saw them play BHASVIC.

There was some excellent defensive work by the team which ensured that they did not concede any points against them.

All of the tries from SDC came from quick counter attacks with some excellent support play from the team.

Try scorers were: Henry Shiell (3), Judd Newell (2), Gareth Lloyd and Angus Taylor with four successful conversions kicked by Joe Terry.

The first league fixture for the Women’s Football Academy saw them play Bexhill College.

Their 13-0 win was a tremendous result for the team, with some excellent link-up play and some quality finishing. Goal scorers were: Lauren Smith, Ellie Coade, Heather Bebb, Katie Franks, Charlotte Lloyd, Angharad Hills and Emma Johnson.

There was also a first league fixture for the newly-formed Men’s Football Academy, and the team started off their campaign with a comfortable win against Cardinal Newman.

The 4-1 result was a superb victory for the team with some excellent defending and attacking throughout the game. All four goals were scored by Harry Millar who brilliantly led the line in attack.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Netball Academy 1st team showed grit and determination to see off Moira House 30-18.

Sussex Downs built their play from the back with some excellent defensive work, and outstanding team work. This allowed shooters Rosie Sharp and Nicola Young to score a number of goals. Woman of the match went to Rosie Sharp.

The Women’s Academy 2nd team started off their season with a great first 31-13 win at home to Cardinal Newman.

The player of the match award went to Lily Hardly for a high intensity performance in both attack and defence.
