Albion suffered more disappointment when throwing away a lead for their third successive game going down 2-1 to Derby County at the Amex last weekend and they are one of six Championship clubs without a point from the first two games of the campaign.
The Seagulls took an early lead through in-form hit-man Leonardo Ulloa but once again Oscar Garcia’s men were unable to maintain their advantage, the Rams’ Chris Martin bagging a brace either side of half time to take the points back to the East Midlands.
Garcia was 33/1 to be the first manager to lose/leave his post in the Championship when we first started betting on the market last month, but he has been cut to 8/1 after the Seagulls’ unwanted opening hat-trick. Brighton are out to 33s for the title, 13/2 for promotion and 3/1 for a top six finish, with Watford the new 4/1 Championship favourites after their comprehensive 6-1 defeat of Bournemouth.
The Seagulls travel to St Andrews today for a meeting with a Birmingham City side who lost their opener 1-0 to Watford before beating relegation favourites Yeovil by the same scoreline at Huish Park. We make Brighton 8/5 favourites with Blues 2/1and the draw at 23/10 – and a share of the spoils is the minimum I would expect for the Seagulls against an ordinary Blues side (I am surprised our oddsmakers make Albion outsiders).
Jose Ulloa is now 4/9 (from 8/13) to be the club’s top scorer in the division and 10/1 to be the league’s top scorer after his goals at Elland Road and against the Rams, with Watford’s Troy Deeney 6/1 favourite after his Vicarage Road hat-trick against the Cherries and Jordan Rhodes also 10s and Charlie Austin 12s.
Ulloa is 5/1 to score the opening goal in Birmingham and 17/10 to find the back of the net at any time; manager Garcia will want goals from all positions but the form his star-striker is in at present makes the 17/10 for the Argentinian to score in the 90 minutes look a fair price.
The Seagulls are 4/5 in our draw no bet market and that might be the safe option. Let’s hope the season starts for Brighton and Garcia on Saturday – and with this bet you have the insurance of your money refunded if the game finishes in a draw.
To mark the start of the 2013/14 Premier League season we at BetVictor are giving customers old and new a cracking offer: place a treble on the opening weekend fixtures and, irrespective of whether you win or lose, we’ll give you the same bet free up to a maximum of £25 on next weekend’s EPL fixtures.
