The Bede’s Senior School Girls Under-18 football team defended their title as National Champions by once again winning the ISFA National Sevens Championship on Sunday October 14.

Bede’s won their group with some convincing victories, the highlights two stunning volleys from Kayleigh Bonwick and Georgia Tibble, a debut goal from Paula Schapper, excellent finishing and crucial goals from Maisie Trafford, skilful dribbling from Laura Adebisi and Mia Bungaroo and solid defending from Elena South and Anouska Greenaway.

Marie Jagua also made her debut in goal and played superbly as fellow Bede’s pupil Sophie Rudge was making her debut for Brighton.

In the semi-final, Bede’s played Stamford, and after trailing 1-0 at half time a change of tactics saw the girls storm back to win 6-1, Kayleigh Bonwick scoring a spectacular hat-trick.

Bede’s then met Haileybury in the final and, despite the game being very close, the girls played a disciplined match to win 2-0.

The U18 squad was presented with their trophy by Clare Rafferty, an Olympian from Team GB and an England player who congratulated Bede’s style and cohesiveness.

2012 is proving to be a superb year for Bede’s football, with the boys U18 team having also successfully defended their title as National Champions in September.

Next up the girls play King Edwards Whitley in the cup.
