Blues sign Lewes old boys

Ringmer have announced the signing of former Lewes players Jamie Bonasco-Zaragosa and Louis Pople.

The Blues announced on the club website: “Our front side have had a few training sessions now with manager Jason Hopkinson and all looks good.

“As with all pre-season we look to see if any of our favourites have returned for another season. I can report that at the moment we have a new club captain, the returning Matt Percival.

“Others to re-sign are the indomitable Jayson Sowter, Seb Saunders, Keifer Ardean-Webb and Alex Mikolay.

“New faces coming in are Callum Sheriff, Jamie Bonasco-Zaragosa and Louis Pople.

“We have other similar young quality signings who will be announced in the next few weeks.”

The club confirmed that former Eastbourne United AFC manager Paul Daubeney had joined the club as Jason Hopkinson’s number two.

Daubeney told our sister publication, the Eastbourne Gazette and Herald group, “I’d left United because of work commitments but they haven’t materialised fully and are still not 100 per cent settled.

“I got a call a couple of Fridays ago from Jason asking to be his number two. I was missing it. I knew come November, October time, I’d want to be back in.

“It will be the first time I’ll have worked with Jason and I’ll be there to back him up and support him.”

Ringmer have announced the return of an old favourite, the Chandlers Cup – an annual match played between Lewes and near neighbours Lewes.

The game was played yearly between 1997 and 2005. The Blues said the game is due to take place at the Caburn on Tuesday August 6, at 7.45pm.
