Dockers are held for first time since September

Newhaven dropped league points for the first time since September as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Steyning Town.

This was the second league meeting between the sides and it was Steyning that were the last team to stop the Dockers from winning when they drew 3-3 at the Shooting Field.

This contest didn’t have the excitement of the first game – when Newhaven fought back from 3-0 down to claim a point – and a tight first half on Saturday ended goalless.

Craig Knowles put the visitors ahead on 63 minutes when he found the net from a corner, but Lee Robinson rounded the Steyning goalkeeper to level at 1-1 four minutes later. Both teams pushed for a winner but the spoils were shared.

Newhaven made two changes from the team that had beaten Lancing in the RUR Cup 11 days before. Jake Buss made his second Dockers debut, replacing the unavailable Graham Leach in goal, while Dave Altendorff returned to the side in place of Ebou Jallow.

TEAM: Buss, Beale, S Edwards, Knight, Murray, Breach (J Edwards), Altendorff, Probert, Watton (Jallow), Robinson, Rouane.
