Newhaven remain three points clear at the top of Division Two after an enthralling 3-2 win against previously unbeaten Broadbridge Heath.
It was the Dockers that struck first, in a battle between teams promoted from last year, when Lee Robinson fired past James Fisher on seven minutes. Gary Pritchard levelled the scores on 22 minutes before Mark Probert restored Newhaven’s advantage six minutes later.
Robinson scored again 10 minutes after the break to give Newhaven a two-goal cushion but Michael Wood made it a nervy last half an hour when he coolly finished past Dockers keeper Graham Leach.
Newhaven recalled Jason Goddard, Dave Altendorff, Probert, Robinson and Naim Rouane in five changes from the team that began the RUR Cup defeat at Sidley. Jason Edwards, Harry Millar, Richie Watton, Matt Harrison and Ryan Walton were the players to miss out, the latter three joining Fenton Boaks and Ryan Knight on the bench. Edwards (injured) and Millar (working) were unavailable.
Saturday’s game between Hailsham Town and Dorking Wanderers was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
DOCKERS: Leach, Beale, Murray, S Edwards, Goddard, Breach, Altendorff, Probert, Robinson, Rouane (Watton), Holmes (Knight). ATT: 57.
