Newhaven are into the First Round Proper of the FA Vase after winning 4-2 victory at Southwick yesterday (Saturday) – but Ringmer crashed out at the Second Qualifying Round stage after losing 3-0 away to Hassocks.
The Dockers led 1-0 at half time thanks to a James Rhodes goal scored midway through the first half at Old Barn Way.
The hosts levelled six minutes into the second period through Richard Hudson, but goals from Ebou Jallow (72 mins) and Ryan Knight (75) put Newhaven 3-1 up.
Southwick threatened a comeback when Darren Tester scored with nine minutes to go but a second goal from Rhodes a minute before the end sealed the win.
However, the Blues went out at The Beacon thanks to first half goals scored by Nathan Miles and Mark Price. Miles netted again after the break to seal Ringmer’s fate.
Crowborough Athletic also made it into the First Round Proper with a 4-2 win at home to Holmesdale.
Hailsham Town and AFC Uckfield both went out of the RUR Charity Cup with away defeats – 2-0 to Chichester City and 3-1 to Rye United respectively – while Seaford Town lost their grip on the Division 2 Challenge Cup they won last season when losing 3-2 in agonising fashion away to Bexhill United in the second round.
A 2-0 half time Seaford lead earned through goals by Beckham Pout (33 mins) and Kirk Ferguson (45) was wiped out by second half strikes by Jamie Salvidge (66) and Peter Cooper (70). And former Hailsham striker Danny Leach won it for the hosts two minutes from the end of extra time.
Saltdean United also exited the same competition yesterday, but at the first round stage, when they went down 2-1 at home to Broadbridge Heath, despite taking an early lead through Billy Cooper.
Uckfield Town lost 1-0 away to Ifield in County League Division 3.
