Eastbourne Utd AFC stun Lewes in the cup

A young Lewes side were left red faced as they crashed out of the Sussex Senior Cup with a shock defeat to Eastbourne Utd AFC on Tuesday night

Two goals from Liam Baitup put the County League Division 2 side deservedly in charge at a chilly Dripping Pan.

The Ryman Premier League hosts were forced to throw on first teamers Ben Godfrey, Anthony Thomas and Karl Beckford, and they did get back into the game when player/manager Simon Wormull scored from a corner with 20 minutes left.

Wormull missed a great chance to equalise soon after but Eastbourne deserved to hang on and progress into Round 3.

It’s back to league action this Saturday for Lewes against East Thurrock, where they will want to put this result quickly behind them and maintain their improved Ryman Premier form.
