Two days before Bonfire Night Peacehaven produced their own firework display with a spectacular attacking performance in a 7-0 defeat of Arundel.
Matt Huckett missed an early Arundel chance, but Peacehaven took the lead thanks to a touch of fortune as Rob Groves deflected Ben Swetman’s cross into his own net. From there ‘Haven went for the throat, and their lead was doubled when Rob O’Toole side footed in from Millis’s cut back.
The floodgates opened after half time, with the excellent Craig Bunch teeing up Joe Dryer for a powerful finish, followed by two spectacular strikes.
The first came from Aaron Gunn, with his first goal in over eighty matches for the club, hit from well outside the area into the top corner.
That was followed by a long range volley from Adam Kneller, which fizzed into the roof of the net. Peacehaven were now rampant and they completed the scoring with a header from Ashley Jones and a deserved goal for Bunch.
Against an Arundel side who have traditionally been difficult opposition, manager Shaun Saunders got his tactics just right, and this was ‘Haven’s sixth straight victory to take them to within two points of leaders East Preston.
