Peacehaven & Telscombe Football Club boss Shaun Saunders looked ahead to his side’s first-ever season in the Ryman League Premier Division and said: “It’s not going to be easy.”
The Magpies had a fantastic campaign last year when they won the Ryman League South Division title, as well as the Sussex Senior Cup.
Saunders’ side begin their league campaign with a trip to Leatherhead on Saturday and his first aim is to ensure they are playing in the Premier Division again next year.
He said: “We just want to be in this division come next season. This year will just be about consolidation after our back-to-back league triumphs.
“It’s going to be a difficult test up at Leatherhead, they are a quality side who have brought in some good players this year.
“We are going to give it a go, be compact and try to get something from the game. If we can do that, we will be delighted.”
Peacehaven have retained a large number of their title-winning squad and have managed to add Ryman League experience with the addition of Mark Knee, from Worthing.
Saunders is delighted he has been able to attract Knee to the club and said: “Mark will bring a wealth of experience to the side as he has played at this level before.
“He will also give us options as he can play defence, midfield and up front, so he brings the ability to play almost anywhere.
“I was made aware he was available and I did not hang about, getting him is a real coup and he’s incredibly fit for his age.”
