LEWES manager Steve King will tell his defenders to pay special attention to the Ryman Premier League’s top scorer Leon Smith when Wingate & Finchley come to town on Saturday.
The hitman has notched 11 goals in 15 league games so far for The Blues to top the early scoring charts and King knows he poses a real goal threat.
“I’ve watched them three times this year and they’ve got the best forward in the league in Leon Smith... he scores goals and he has to be watched, he scores almost all of their goals.
“They score a few but they let in a few as well so it should be an entertaining game.”
Rooks go into the game in seventh, but just five points behind current leaders Lowestoft Town, who have played a game more.
“We’re doing alright, we’re in the top seven and only a few points off the top with a game in hand so we’re going in the right direction,” King said.
“We’ve got 27 points from 14 games and we’ll try and look for two points a game, and if we can get get a win on Saturday it’ll be 30 points from 15 games which is where we want to be.”
Wingate & Finchley are enjoying a successful first season in the Ryman Premier having gained promotion last season. They currently sit tenth, five points back from King’s side, although their last league game saw them heavily beaten 5-0 at Margate.
The match at the Dripping Pan kicks off at 3pm.
