LEWES resumed league action with a 7-0 victory at fourth-place Ebbsfleet Town on Sunday.
There was no evidence of the wastefulness in front of goal that saw them exit the League Cup to Enfield the previous week, and a hat-trick from Naomi Cole was supplemented by goals from Jo Gardiner, Kelly Newton, Holly Grogan and Tammy Waine to round off yet another goal-frenzied Lewes Ladies performance.
League leaders Lewes are eight points clear of second-place Norwich City who have a game in hand.
A moment of great quality brought the opening goal on 10 minutes as Grogan cleverly released Andreia Veiga on the left wing and her early cross was met by a brave diving header from Gardiner.
Gardiner went close a further three times before Lewes grabbed a deserved second through Cole who flicked up a pass from Waine before letting fly with a brilliant 30 yard volley on 33 minutes.
The hosts played with a lone striker who was all too often outnumbered by the Lewes defence, with keeper Layla Young largely untroubled.
Just before half time Lewes scored a third as Steph O’Reilly’s cross brought a great leap from Gardiner at the back post and her goal-bound header was turned in by Newton for a comfortable half time lead.
Early in the second half O’Reilly was again the provider as her cross was met by Grogan’s smart volley for 4-0, and another 30-yard lob from Cole made it 5-0 on 68 minutes.
The hosts did create two good chances to get on the score sheet but sent their efforts narrowly wide.
Player of the Match Cole then completed her hat trick with a header from O’Reilly’s corner and the scoring was rounded off by Waine’s lob from Holly Hinshelwood’s long ball.
The Rooks’ next fixture is away to Basildon in the FA Cup on Sunday.
