Exeter City 1, Lewes Ladies 3
Lewes ladies cruised into round three of the FA Women’s Cup after a fine display against a spirited Exeter side, writes @Rookmiester.
Lewes will face another long journey west in the third round as they have been drawn at Yeovil Town who compete in the second division of the FA WSL league - the second level of the women’s pyramid.
You might have forgiven the Rookettes a little ring-rust after four weeks without a competitive match.
However, Lewes began well and on 10 minutes, Sian Heather turned sharply inside the box to fire low past Barber after good work from Newton and Baker. Kirsty Spice scored the second moments later. Full back Tash Wells hit a peach from 18 yards. Barber looked beaten but managed to paw the dipping shot onto her crossbar, only for Spice to go in bravely to net the rebound.
The third came from a set piece after Exeter conceded a freekick. Katie McIntyre delivered with her usual accuracy, skipper Kelly Newton rose clear to head home for 0-3. Exeter had a player sent-off but still managed to pull a goal back.
Lewes: Cowling, Thompson-Agbo, Cheedy, Wells, Baker, McIntyre, Newton (C), Bennett, Khassal, Heather, Spice. Subs: Stenning, Howe, Trafford
