LEWES Under-18 starlet Solly March is expected to sign for Brighton & Hove Albion “shortly”, although the Rooks have denied that any deal has so far been done.
The talented youngster has been the subject of huge interest from a range of top clubs, including Millwall, Newcastle and Sunderland, but after he and his parents have held discussions with the Seagulls, it seems that Falmer is the St Bede’s School pupil’s preferred destination.
A club statement read: “Although the discussions have gone very well and are expected to be completed shortly, the signing has not yet been completed, contrary to some news reports.
“A number of Clubs have enquired about Solly but he and his family are keen to set something up with local Club, the Albion.
“Solly attends St Bede’s school at Upper Dicker, an Independent School renowned for producing good footballers and which includes ex-Rook’s coach Simon Gough on its staff. One of the items under discussion is ensuring that Solly’s education can continue alongside his football development.”
Rooks have a number of their Under-18s being monotored by League Clubs and have expressed delight with the work of U18 manager Simon Wormull and his coach Nick Brown.
Wormull said: “Our aim is to develop the lads so that they can play at the highest level they can achieve.
“Of course we want to produce players for Lewes FC but it is also a big boost for the Club if players are picked up by League Clubs. We are very happy for Solly and hope that all is sorted out soon and that he goes on to great things.”
