Lewes FC’s plans to build a full-size, floodlit 3G all-weather facility adjacent to the Dripping Pan have received a massive boost from Sport England.

Lewes Community Football Club is set to help more young people get into sport thanks to £200,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Improvement Fund. The award, which has just been confirmed, is one of 21 projects across England to share in over £7.1 million of National Lottery investment from the third round of funding. The latest round of the Improvement Fund focuses on facilities that will help get more young people playing sport. There are currently a record number of 3.9 million 16- to 25-year-olds playing sport every week, however, there is still more to do to help young people develop a sporting habit for life.

Sport England is investing between £150,000 and £500,000 to improve sports facilities so the changing demands of young people are met whilst delivering an improved sporting experience. Sport England Property Director, Charles Johnston, said: “We know people have a better experience of sport when they have good facilities in which to play. This is why we’re investing in Lewes Community Football Club to improve their facilities so they are more appealing to young people, and help us to get them developing a lifelong sporting habit.”

The total funding required to build the 3G is £850k and the Rooks own efforts to raise £200k of investment from local people have been going well, but with just days till the Saturday 16th August deadline, Lewes FC Director Charlie Dobres says more people need to come forward: “We have a total of around £175k either already invested or pledged, but that final £25k to hit our target is absolutely essential. We are asking everyone who thinks it would be great to have an all-weather pitch for the whole community to use to support us with at least a £100 investment or more if they can afford it. This is a genuine investment and not just a donation and time is running short.” More details of the 3G Regeneration Investment Offer (RIO) can be found at
