Polegate Town recorded a superb giant-killing feat after beating Barnham FC, of the Sussex Football County League, 3-2 in the second round of the Sussex FA Intermediate Challenge Cup.
Town, who are normally found playing in the the Mid Sussex League Championship, took an early lead by catching the visitors sleeping, Ashley Crocombe latching onto a loose ball to score from close range.
Barnham had the chance to equalise from the penalty spot, but saw their effort canon off the crossbar.
However, their pressure did pay off when they equalised just before half time.
But Town restored their lead early in the second half when James McConnell rose the highest in the penalty area to nod home from six yards out. Town were again pegged back, to 2-2 midway through the second half, but it seemed luck was on their side when Barnham missed another another penalty, and a late counter attack ensured it indeed was their day when Crocombe grabbed his second of the match to give Town an unlikely win.
This prompted joyous scenes among the dozens of home supporters. Man of the match was Josh Preece although the hosts were also helped by several fantastic saves by keeper Josh Preece.
