Hailsham Town came from behind to win an entertaining game against Hassocks 3-2.

The Stringers took the lead in the 22nd minute when Danny Leach cut in from the right and fired a low shot beyond ‘keeper James Plumley.

After chances for both teams, it was the visitors who then levelled before the interval when a free kick was curled in and firmly headed home by the unmarked Hassocks skipper Stuart Faith.

Hassocks began the second half strongly though, and midway through went into the lead when Nathan Miles netted from close range on 75 minutes.

The Stringers were not to be beaten - and showing the fighting spirit that has characterised recent performances, they were level within three minutes when Danny Leach slotted home his second of the afternoon, sending Plumley the wrong way with a powerful penalty kick.

With the game in the balance, it was Hailsham who emerged victorious when, ten minutes from time substitute Stuart Skan turned home from close range.

Hassocks threw men forward as time ticked away, but the Hailsham defence held firm to see out a narrow victory.

Hailsham’s Reserve team went down to a 7-1 defeat away at Shoreham.
