UCKFIELD are on the verge of winning their division – in February!
Rugby’s Sussex Spitfire 1 league leaders destroyed second-placed side Pulborough 63-7 on Saturday. Meanwhile, in another important Sussex 1 fixture on Saturday, Holbrook beat Hastings & Bexhill, meaning that if Holbrook lose tomorrow at Burgess Hill – and Uckfield beat Hastings & Bexhill at Hastings – then the Acorns will have secured the league with an astonishing quarter of the season still to play.
Uckfield coach Kevin Martin said: “We are really looking forward to playing Hastings & Bexhill next. If all goes well we could win the league away to them, which would put the cherry on the cake. It’s been an amazing season so far and we are looking forward to playing in the league above.”
Of his side’s demolition of Pulborough, Martin said, “I was amazed that we won by such a big margin. We were expecting to win but didn’t expect to get the bonus point.”
