Hastings United Football Club has offered its condolences to the late Jeremy Birch.
The leader of Hastings Borough Council passed away yesterday (Wednesday) having been rushed to hospital last Friday. He was seriously ill and in a coma.
A club statement said: “The directors of Hastings United Football Club send their sincere condolences to the family of Jeremy Birch following his sudden death.
“Jeremy was a regular supporter at The Pilot Field, and supported the team at both Harrogate and Middlesbrough in their FA Cup run (during the 2012/13 season). Whatever political persuasion you are, Jeremy did a tremendous lot for Hastings.”
United narrowly avoided relegation from Ryman Football League Division One South during the recently-concluded season and are now on the hunt for a new manager having decided not to continue with Nigel Kane for next term.
