Walsh: ‘Let’s finish season on a high’

Crawley’s Welsh wonder Joe Walsh is urging the side to finish their season on a high against Bristol City on Saturday with a win which could see the club finish in the top half of the league table.

Speaking after the 0-0 draw with Carlisle on Tuesday night, which meant the highest Reds can finish is now 11th, Walsh said: “We want to finish off with a win, finish as high as we can and hopefully we’ll have a good crowd here Saturday.

“Hopefully if we win we can get a top half finish which is good for a club like Crawley.”

Reds failed to capitalise on a number of gilt-edge chances against a Cumbrians side who are now all but relegated, something Walsh feels has been an issue this season.

He said: “We didn’t want to lose three in a row after losing six in a row last time, and we knew they’d be coming here fighting for their lives so I think we’ve done well, kept them out. They threw everything at us, so it’s a good point in the end.

“I think that’s what it is, finishing teams off and not getting the three points when we should have come away with them. The ‘keeper was good, he made some good saves.”

Walsh was subject to a £400,000 bid in January but chose to remain at the Broadfield. He is likely to attract further attention this summer but with another year left on his contract he is in no hurry to leave the club.

“I’ll see what happens in the summer. I’ll carry on playing the way I’m playing, it doesn’t really affect me (speculation about my future),” the 21-year-old said.

“I’m playing first team (football) and enjoying it and that’s what I want to be doing so I’m happy here.”
