Eastbourne Town boss John Lambert says his side’s title-push is firmly on track ahead of their trip to Shoreham tomorrow (writes Adam Skinner).
Town’s Sussex Division One title rivals have stolen a march on them due to a host of games that fell foul to various bad weather and an abandonment because of injury.
But they have games in hand and remain firmly in control of their own destiny. It’s simple. Win every game and they win the league.
“The title challenge was never off,” Lambert said.
“All we can do now is carry on and not worry what’s down the line. I’m very confident in promotion. All we need is to get back into the routine.
“We are capable of beating anyone in this league but it’s going to be an interesting run to the end of the season. There will be lots of twists and turns but we’ve just got to focus on what we’ve got to do.”
After suffering relegation from the Ryman South last season, promotion was always the minimum requirement this campaign.
Factors beyond Town’s control means they find themselves 11 points off Pagham in top spot but they have six games in hand and will return to the summit if they can win them all.
Lambert knows they will be big favourites at 15th-place Shoreham, but he is refusing to take tomorrow’s lowly opponents for granted.
“It has always been a difficult place to go,” he added. “I never usually have a good day there.”
Kick Off is 3pm, Middle Road, Shoreham
