SIMON WORMULL is confident of adding to his Rooks squad in time for their first game of their pre-season programme this weekend.
Lewes take on fellow community club Fisher in the Supporters Direct Shield at Enfield Town on Sunday. But before that the Rooks hold their first ever Open Day at the Dripping Pan tomorrow – and Rooks boss Wormull said he was hopeful that he would be able to parade his new signing then.
The player, a full back, is known to be a player of impressive standard, having performed in the Blue Square Bet South over the past four years. Speaking on Wednesday, Wormull said: “I’m still working on one (player) coming in at the moment.
“We’ll probably sort it out at the weekend. He’s just been away and has only just got back yesterday.
“He’s a defender, a full back, and he’s been playing in the Blue Square South for the past four years.
“That shows you that he’s of a very decent standard and he would be a very good addition to our squad.
“Hopefully we’ll get it all sorted out on Saunday and then maybe we’ll be able to show him off to the fans at the club’s Open Day!”
Although no other potential new signings seem to be on the cards, Wormull did confirm that no other players were set to leave the Pan, after the recent departures of quality midfidlers in Matt Somner and Harry Harding.
The Rooks first team squad made their return to pre-season training on Sunday and Wormull said he was delighted with the attitude of his troops.
He said: “The boys have been working really hard. The aim is that they’ll all be involved during the game on Sunday (at Enfield).”
That game, which kicks off at 1pm, is then followed by an away friendly at Worthing next Saturday (August 14, kick off 3pm) before the big one: the all-ticket, home game against a Brighton & Hove Albion 1st XI on Tuesday, July 17, 7.45.
This is followed by home games against Dover Athletic (Saturday, July 21, 3pm), Crawley Town (Tuesday, July 31, 7.45pm) and Eastbourne Borough (Friday, August 3, 7.45pm).
The Ryman Premier League then kicks off on Saturday, August 18 (fixtures still to be announced).
Tomorrow’s Open Day at the Dripping Pan, from 10am to 3pm is a chance for the club to unveil the new and returning 1st XI players to fans, as well as making the Ladies, U18s and Under 15 Girls available to talk to fans.
Those new players Wormull has already brough in include Kieron Thorp, from Eastbourne Town, Callum Dunne, from Horsham and returning Rook Karl Beckford.
