Ibbitson: "We weren't inventive enough"

LEWES manager Steve Ibbitson admitted he was disappointed with his side's performance on Saturday after Chelmsford were reduced to 10 men.

Marlon Patterson was dismissed just before the end of the first half leaving Lewes with 45 minutes to try and overcome their 1-0 deficit.

He said: "Often when a player is sent off it ends up being different to what you expect.

"They seemed galvansied by it and upped their game by another 10 percent, and we thought we could reduce ours by another 10 percent."

Chelmsford are flying high in the Conference South and Ibbo conceded that the better team won on the day.

He added: "They are one of the best sides in the league.

"They are a typical Conference South side, they are very big and even when they went down to 10 men they were very organised.

"They scored from two set pieces and closed the game down.

"I'm disappointed with us because we didn't have the invention to get back in the game, which is disappointing."

However, there was a bright spark for the Lewes boss with a debut game for 16-year-old winger George Jones who impressed in his first start.

He added: "He did okay. He's only 16.

"He got a knock early on and wasn't well, he was sick on the pitch during the game, which is why we decided to take him off.

"He had a bang on the head and he was mildly concussed, whichh spoilt his day for him. He's going to be a good player."

Lewes host Worcester this Saturday at The Dripping Pan, kick-off 3pm.
