Losing playing trio has brought rest of us together, says Worms

Simon Wormull said he hoped his small squad of players will bond following the release of three first team players.
The departures of defender Lee Cooper, midfielder Anthony Thomas and winger and former U18 graduate Max Howell were announced the day before the Rooks took on East Thurrock.
But Wormull’s remaining men looked like they wouldn’t miss their former colleagues in an impressive first 70 minutes, during which they led through a Ben Godfrey goal on 26 minutes.
But the visitors fought back in the last 20 and levelled through Kris Newby on 77 minutes. And if anthing the Rooks were grateful to hold on for their fourth draw in five league games after that, with the Rocks putting their hosts under a spell of intense pressure at the end, and even having a goal chalked off for offside.
Asked afterwards if he felt frustrated by the result, Wormull admitted: “Yeah, a little bit.
“The first half performance was fantastic today, and even going into probably the 20 minutes of the second half I thought we were in total control of the game. And then we kind of sat back a bit really, and just invited a little bit of pressure. I suppose when you look at it in the grand scheme of things, it was probably a fair result to be honest.”
On a more positive note, he conceded that the continued return to full fitness of himself and other influential members of the squad seemed to be coming along well. “Absolutely,” he agreed. “Obviously I played last Saturday, Tuesday (and) today, so it’s kind of (a case of) building my fitness as well; it’s the same with people like Callum (Dunne), and the same with (Nathan) Crabby.
“So it was good in that sense.”
Asked what the mood of the squad was following the news of the release of the three players the day before, he said: “They’re professional, they know what the business is about. Hopefully it’s brought us a little bit closer together, if I’m honest, because I thought the way we started, the way we played first half, showed a lot of togetherness, that we were really on board today.
“I know we’re frustrated and we’ve drawn today, but we play Whitehawk here next week and we’re still unbeaten since the first game of the season.
“All we need to do now is turn that into a win. Hopefully that will be next week.”
