Lewes lose to bottom club Weymouth
LEWES lost at bottom placed Weymouth in a scrappy game.
A first half penalty from Joe Keehan levelled for the Rooks, but two goals in the second half for the hosts sealed a disappointing defeat for Lewes.
Aaron Hopkinson comes in for Dan Royce at left midfield, and Williams Peauroux replaces Kane Louis, as the Rooks lined up 4-5-1.
It was a scrappy start to the game, with both teams struggling to get the ball down and put a string of passes together.
Both teams were struggling to create any chances but on 18 minutes Weymouth took the lead.
A free-kick was floated in for Lewes, and with striker Jean Michel Sigere not connecting with a free header, it gave Weymouth a chance to counter attack.
The Lewes defence was nowhere to be seen, and Weymouth striker Joshua Llewellyn was through on goal.
Goalkeeper Rikki Banks made the save down low to his right and then again at the striker's feet, but at the third attempt Llewellyn fired low and hard past Banks into the bottom corner.
Weymouth were only ahead for five minutes.
The young winger Aaron Hopkinson was fouled in the area after good pace.
Joe Keehan stepped up for the penalty and hammered it straight down the middle to make it 1-1.
Lewes then had the best of the rest of the half.
Sigere coming close with a left footed shot just outside the area and Scott Chamberlain's good chance going wide.
Weymouth had their chances too. Right winger Matthew Groves' turn and shot went just wide of Banks' far post.
Lewes started off poorly in the second half, inviting pressure onto themselves. Weymouth were pressing to go ahead in the game for the second time, and that came from Stephen Reed after 58 minutes.
A cross from the left was only half cleared, and waiting on the edge of the box Reed fired a left footed shot into the top corner leaving Banks no chance. Weymouth were always looking dangerous after that and after 78 minutes they sealed the win.
A sloppy pass from Lewes let winger Simon Radcliffe in, who squared the ball to forward Jake Reid who tapped into an empty net from 6 yards.
Lewes had a couple of chances late on with Hopkinson's long range effort going just over and David Wheeler's header well saved from Weymouth goalkeeper Ryan Harrison.
Overall it was a poor performance from Lewes.
They were too sloppy in possession and the goals they conceded were easily avoidable.
There was good performances from Hopkinson, Keehan and Chris Breach. Lewes' next game is at home to Braintree on Saturday.
